Post Tassels
Can anyone tell me if the use of tassels for cleaning arrows was used pre-1600 or is it a Victorian invention?

Thank you

I can't find anything pre1700, but a painting of Archibald Burnet of Carlops dated 1715 shows him with a tassel in his belt.

Cerrtainly in use during Georgian times. They are not mentioned earlier to my knowledge but reason suggests that they used something. Thyetre was an odd object found with tre Ice-man which I believe was thought to be a talisman of some sort but which could easily have been a cleansing tassel !.
Oh, a longboyman's pride is his tassel;
Though its dirty and covered in clay.
It could be got clean, in a washing machine,
# But it'd look just the same the next day !.
