Post A couple of pictures.
This is a reproduction of the Mammen ax from Denmark(viking age) made by my friend Poul Kristensen. The white lines are inlaid silver. He sure knows how to do it.

Oh WOW !!! That is incredible, what artistry ! Thank you for sharing this with us. If your friend is not already employed by museums and archeologists to create replicas of such things for them, then he jolly well should be.

Lovely to see you looking well after your recent illness

By the way, were there any archery artefacts found with the Oseberg ship ? Since you have not mentioned this I guess not.

There was no archery artefacts found in the Oseberg ship. On a wood item was a small carving of a deer with an arrow sticking out of it`s chest. Two women were buried in the ship, one old an one young. At least one of them must have been a very important person since they were given such a burial. No weapons or gold and silver was found in the ship, one could se that grave robbers had been there. Gold, silver and weapons have been found plentiful other places from the same time period, so what was interesting was all the other things found from daily life; Wagons, sledges, buckets, fabrics, farming toools, cooking pots and an enormous amount of things. It was clear that the two women should not be missing anything in the afterlife.
