 Tir Beursault
I am trying to find information on the French "tir beursault" . It is my understanding that the current form is based on a medieval competition. I would like to know what the rules were for the original competition. Any scorces, in English, you can suggest would be most helpful.
Thank you for any help you can give.

I met some French archers who still practised that style of target shooting. There were written rules in French. Most of the archers spoke English well. If you are interested, I can send you a private message with an email address.

Yes, thank you. That would be most useful.

'Le Tir a L'Arc ' by De Bertier, Cordier, and Guglielmini: Paris Librairie Hachette 1900C. III is explicit about French and Belgian shooting generally, including inter alia 'Tir au Berceault'. There is also a good explanation within 'Tir a l'Arc, par francoise avon-coffrant1978.

I found a copy of "Le Tir a L'Arc" on Google Books. However, since I can not read French, it does me little good. Although it does look like it covers the information I am looking for. Three years of high school Latin from over fifty years ago just does not carry over well enough for the French.

What I am looking for is information on the origins of the Tir Beursault. When and in what form was it first shot. Was it shot before the 1600s. What were the distances, target, scoring, etc. I am working on an article about medieval and Renaissance archery competitions for a medieval group of which I am a member. I am trying to move them away from using the modern five color FITA face.
Thank you for any help you can give.
