Post 11th century french crossbow
I'm trying to find information on the crossbow from Charavines-Colletière, dated to the first half of the 11th century.

The prod was made of yew and the length of it and the tiller was in Valerie Serdon's book "Armes du Diable: arc et arbalète".
What I cannot find anywhere is which wood the tiller was made out of, and I haven't been able to locate the writings of "C. Gaulon" she's referring to in the book.

Is there anyone out there with more information, or who hasn't spent the last twenty years forgetting what little french they once knew?

Best wishes,

Hakan, I am still looking on your behalf but in the meantime you may like to read a bit about Char-Coll on page 38 of this book, It puts the crossbow find in context.
