Post Horace Ford signature.
Does anyone have a copy of Horace Ford's signature?
I've just bought a copy of his book (2. edition 1859) and it's signed.
But I would like to be sure that it's really his signature.
And then I could use a little "gossip" (I know this isn't "The Sun").
I have a copy of William Negley's "Archer in Africa". He claims to be the first white man ever to kill an elephant with bow and arrow, claiming that Howard Hill only killed one that was wounded in the knee by a rifleshot, to make it stand still, and then Hill shot it with his bow.
Negley keeps on telling how much he admires Hill on one page, only to ridicule him on the next.
Does anyone know the story behind this?
Ole

Hi Ole, I checked my copy of Ford [2nd ed. - 1859], and it contains Ford's signature below his photo [the frontispiece]. I also checked several other copies of the second edition and found the same signature at the bottom of the photo/frontispiece. I also checked my first edition of Ford's book [1856], the Dean Manley - American edition [1880], and the Butt edition [1887] and they all contain the same photo/frontispiece and signature at the bottom. My guess is that the signature was on the frontispiece before the books were published.

Perhaps your signature is located elsewhere in the copy of the book you have?

The same question concerning the signature went through my mind at one point until I had several copies with which to compare the signatures.

Hope this helps!

I have a letter from Horace Ford which is obviously authentic. I will check it against that in the book.
