GNAS badge.

I've just bought a large GNAS-badge, (9 cm diameter) placed on a metal plate with holes in the bottom. It's meant to be fastened with screws, but on what?
My first thought was a car, but it's almost too big.
Can anyone help?
Ole

Sounds like a car badge to me.

Examples come up for sale on eBay every few months, usually described as dating from the 1960s/70s.
FITA car badges were also available; the one I have (picture attached if I've figured out how) measures 7cm diameter.

I believe they were usually mounted in front of the radiator grill, rather than being a top-mounted bonnet/hood ornament like Rolls-Royce's Spirit of Ecstasy.

Such badges were popularised, I guess, by automobile associations and car-owners clubs, with other organizations such as ours subsequently joining the bandwagon. At one time one could even get "badge bars" for mounting on the vehicle to accommodate several such badges. They seem to have largely died out (though charity emblems such as red noses have recently made a bit of a come-back). Of course, substantial metal brackets protruding from the front of your car probably violate moden pedestrian safety legislation, so I think they're just collectors items now.
