Riveted arrow heads

I am looking for some information on medieval arrow heads. I have seen photos of some socketed arrow heads which show a hole for a rivet to secure the head to the shaft. My question is, was there a pair of holes opposite each other, which would allow a rivet to be placed through the hole and then pe...

Arrow manufacture

Does anyone have some period sources for the medieval method of arrow construction? Either medieval text or images.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Do you know if it will be released soon by Amazon US or Canada? It is at Amazon UK, but I would like to avoid the extra shipping cost.

Many thanks

Re: Medieval longbow covered grips?

Thanks. So no known examples of covered grips. I wonder why they do not seem to have been used.

Medieval longbow covered grips?

Are there any examples of pre-1600 longbows of any country, with the grip section of the handle covered with any material or were they all uncovered? I am not referring to just war-bows, but all kinds including those used by the nobility. Thank you for any help you can give John R Edgerton. Newark, ...

Re: Journal of the Historic Crossbow 2015

Thank you Jens. Does Andreas Bichler read English? I would like to contact him. John Hello! The 1573 competition in Frankfurt seems to be an average one for competitions at that time in Central Germany. Unfortunately, we dont know how long was the time for the shots. The next Jahrblatt will be publi...

Re: Journal of the Historic Crossbow 2015

Greetings Jens Thank you for your response. It will be most helpful in setting up my competition. I do have some additional questions about it. Did they take turns, each shooting one bolt, or did each crossbowman shoot all their bolts one after the other? Was the scoring one point for a hit to the s...

"ordo pro balistari "

I hope that someone might be able to assist me in locating a source for the document mentioned below. I am hoping to run a crossbow competition next year based on rules for pre 1600 archery competitions. Would it be possible to send me a copy of the document, if possible either in English or modern ...

Re: Journal of the Historic Crossbow 2015

Jens I finally obtained a copy of the 2015 issue. It is again an excellent issue. I have been doing research on medieval archery competitions and have seen some examples of similar invitations. I would like to be able to set up and run a competition similar to the 1573 Frankfurt Competition that you...
