What drawings are you viewing ?. Are Makers names provided. ? Within my Collection of around 300 longbows I have examples of work by many of the 19C bowyers.

Re: Bloodwood

If bloodwood' is alternatively 'Rubywood', then Yes. I have examples, the most prominent being one by Waring the Elder who used it as a compression wood in company with hickory for tension. I think it also appears as a scarfed-in laminate on a couple of other 18C bows. Whiteley, and |Ainsworth.

John. The text is still valid. However, with the variation in exchange rate I cannot quantify the $ amount. It is £25 GBP or the rate at the time, the additional amount for prospective U.S members is because of the increased postal costs to North America. Ideally, I would prefer potential members to...

Interest in the past will always be a minority activity. I can identify with the feeling of the German archer who considers 25 Euros to be excessive for 'Just one Journal and three Newsletters a year". But, only if he or she has no interest in what has gone to make his or her shooting the pleas...

I'm glad to read that the innovation was successful. I had hoped that it would be of interest to serious researchers. Certainly I expect it to feature next year. It would be nice to include it as a feature of the March Meeting also but there may not be time.

The afternoon Bow Meeting will be attended by members who have come for that purpose. Most arrive in the morning though and spend the time before lunch socialising and looking at books, and material brought for sale or exchange, or just for viewing. The morning shoot is an innovation and one which I...

There will be a period in the morning given over to 'experimental archaeology', which will provide an opportunity for 'historic' replica bows to be shot for performance. I hope that this will partially satisfy those who feel that not enough time is given over to shooting. It will be nice to see rath...
